This plot is basically a follow-up to the plot in 12 th of Never and, while it isn’t the best told of stories, I have to commend the authors for developing a multi-book plotline. The second plot involves the return of Mackie Morales, former SFPD intern, current serial killer on the run. It’s an entertaining enough storyline, albeit very strange. It’s goofy, over-the-top, B-movie cheese but Patterson and Paetro play it straight. Somebody is spiking the burgers with bombs.
As the bodies mount, the evidence points back to one thing: they all recently ate at the same chain restaurant. It’s not clear how, but these dead people exploded from the inside.

More like real life, perhaps, but that’s the only realistic element these books bring.
